Crazy Hat Night at Awana

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

Awana is in full swing and my "baby" boy gets to participate as a Cubbie this year. I'm finally able to volunteer this year, too, so I'm taking pictures for the end-of-the-year slideshow. This time last year, I was stuck at home with a screaming baby, resenting Awana, but actually being involved (and having said baby older and much happier) really has made a difference. It's been a lot of fun hanging out with our church family and watching the kids learn and play. Rob, especially, is all about Awana. He talks about it all week long, asks to see the calendar to see how close Wednesday night is, and loves memorizing his verses. He got his little Cubbie vest tonight and boy - was he cute and proud! Tonight also happened to be Crazy Hat Night, so I whipped up some Mohawk Earflap Hats for Matt and Rob, which were a huge hit.

The cutest Cubbie ever!!!

Rob's Mohawk Earflap Hat. I went off some pictures, but it's my own design. No pattern.

I've turned into one of those scary Awana moms...

House Progress - A LOT

Excuse the mess, but there's lots going on at the house! Were SO CLOSE to finishing up, we're thinking we'll be able to start moving in THIS WEEKEND! Holy U-haul, Batman! Our last big step - flooring, which is going in AS WE SPEAK! Yippee! Can't wait to see it after AWANA tonight!

Album updates:

I know it's slightly annoying, but you'll have to scroll through until you find the new pictures.

Puppy Pillow Pal Project

Monday, September 19, 2011

I made this for a sweet baby boy far away, who had a bit of a rough start to life, but by the grace of God is perfectly healthy and now home. Took me awhile to finish, but not because it was difficult - just because I was so busy. So, so cute!

New windows!!! Click the picture!

They look AMAZING! We also got our new portable dishwasher and will be receiving a new lawn mower via Cher's continuing generosity. God is so very good.

House Progress - Electrical Work

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

All the electrical work is done! Click on the picture to go see. The guy did a great job!

Windows are being installed tomorrow and flooring goes in next Wednesday or Thursday. Things are really starting to come together and we're getting very excited to move in! Whee!

Random Progress

Monday, September 12, 2011

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with updates on the house. It's been INSANE around here! Both of my households are in complete chaos and we're all exhausted. Praying things slow down again, soon.

We've been going full-speed ahead on the house and have been working like crazy to get the painting finished. The next three weeks or so are going to be even more nuts, but thankfully it's up to someone else to get the bulk of the work done for us. In the next few weeks, we'll be expecting an electrician (tomorrow morning, I just found out), the flooring installers, and the window installer. Boom, boom, boom. Hopefully they all don't decide to show up at the same time. The electrician will be doing the most work; installing ceiling fans in three rooms, fixing the wiring in our kitchen, installing a fan in the bathroom, and putting in some more outlets in various places around the house. As for flooring, we went with Cher this weekend and chose our carpets and vinyl (carpet for the living room, vinyl for the dining area, and carpet for our room and the hall). It was a very spendy endeavor, but we did the best we could without settling, I feel. The window guy will be installing a total of four windows (all in the living room/dining area) and a storm door for the front door. Whew! Have at it, guys! We're pooped!

Thankfully, we're done with the bulk of the painting. The boys' room was the last of the "priority" rooms to be painted and boy - was it a beast! Just need to finish painting the cupboard doors and shelves and that room is finished. If we have any sort of umph before we move in, the spare room needs to be painted - it's still very pink, which now causes me to twitch.

Since I wasn't able to keep up with picture posts, I decided to just make online albums for each room. I'll try to update on when these albums have been - well, updated. Some of these photos have already been posted, so no - you're not experiencing deja vu.

Second Bible Verse

Wednesday, September 7, 2011

Rob's ability to retain things astounds me. I taught him Romans 3:23 late last week, we practiced it sporadically, and he already has it memorized. I love how it's benefiting me, too - I'm forced to learn these verses so I can teach him. Love it!

Slouch Hat Project

Monday, September 5, 2011

These seem to be rather popular right now, so I thought I'd take a whack at a Slouch Hat for myself. I have to admit - I'm not usually a hat person, but this one's kind of growing on me. Might need to make more.

On a side note, I've ordered a mannequin head to display my future hats for pictures, but obviously it hasn't come in, yet.

First Bible Verse

Thursday, September 1, 2011

Rob has memorized his very first Bible verse. We're so proud of you, little man! He is SO eager for AWANA!
